A Dublin man pulled out all the stops with his Christmas lights this year for the loveliest reason

Sean White is keeping the Christmas spirit alive in Palmerstown.

LOOKING FOR A bit of Christmas spirit? This house in Dublin has it by the bucketload.

Sean White from Palmerstown first started putting up Christmas lights (simple strings of bulbs around the windows) about 20 years ago, and his display has only gotten bigger and brighter since then.

He told DailyEdge.ie that it takes the whole month of November to plan out and set up the display:

In September, if Dublin are in the All Ireland final, I’ll paint the house the Dublin colours. That comes down on Halloween, the Halloween stuff comes up, and the day after Halloween, I start the Christmas lights.

The switching on of the lights has even become a bit of a neighbourhood tradition. Last Friday, dozens gathered to watch him light up the house:

Every year we have a big ‘switch on’ and invite over all our neighbours and friends. We get out the mulled wine and mince pies and all the kids get selection boxes. We must have given out around 56 or 57.

The lights, as you may expect, are extremely popular with the children of the neighbourhood.

A kid that lives around the corner won’t go to bed until he comes around to see the lights every night, come rain, hail or shine.

Since 2011, he’s been asking visitors to help him raise money for charity – this year, for the second year in a row, White is fundraising for Dylan, a little boy with cerebral palsy who lives in the area.

In 2015, he collected over €1000 to go towards his care, and he’s hoping to raise a bit more this time around.

So if you’re in the Palmerstown area this Christmas, take a quick trip to 20 Palmers Grove, throw a few bob in the bucket, and keep the festive cheer going.
